[OOC: How to be a Good (Bad?) Hyuuga Heiress]
Because, bloody hell, I need this. Especially after all my age-jumping, and I cheated to get her to sixteen. Haine-mun's right: I should write that fic. So, ganking idea from
inui_log and
hascoldhands.
Revisions and add-ons as I think of 'em. And by all means, correct me if I wrote something stupid.
1. Others before herself - There are very, very few occasions where the fact she doesn't blame herself first isn't true. Hinata would sooner find a fault with herself than with others. HOWEVER, as she gains confidence, the time it takes for her to realise that she isn't the one in the wrong will lessen. On a similar note, it's others' happiness before hers.
2. Double check - She worries about what other people think. A LOT. On the other hand, she also worries a lot about if she's bothering people. Therefore, maximum "Are you sure?"s are one or two.
3. Stronger and stubborn - Continuing from point one; it does take a moment or so for her to muster the will and courage to stand up. Once that's all over, she is about as stubborn as Naruto. This, I think, shows up in two or three chapters of the manga. The beginning of chapter 78 is when Kiba, being taken out of the ring after his fight with Naruto, warns her to give up the fight if she were to go up against Neji. 'Lo and behold, but of course that's what happens. Yet the fact that she still went down to the ring in the first place shows just a little bit of stubbornness - or perhaps that was because she was trying to actually gather up the courage to cry forfeit. Nevertheless, chapter 79/80 is when she still stands up after Neji beats her down, despite the pain from his words, previous hits and an increasing erratic heart. She wasn't backing down, no matter what.STUBBORN LIKE A FOOL, THIS ONE.
4. Pacifist - Nevertheless, if one is a available, Hinata would much prefer to take a path which doesn't involve confrontation. It is still a bad, BAD thing to her. But remember that at this stage she's more along the lines of (when backed into a corner) "... Okay ... If I must, then ..."
5. Expressive - Whether it be disappointment, shock, horror, fear: everything shows. She can't really hide whatever she's feeling, but how subtle or not depends on the situation.
6. Positive - She can see positive qualities in other people; these can be in terms of personality, appearance, strength, talent, ability and so on. Even just little things, such as Stan's offer to change her shadow back, even if he couldn't really do it. Even if a person is evil, there would undoubtedly be a spark of respect for them if they were incredibly skilled (although she would keep that respect to herself or may not actually notice it). AT THE SAME TIME, she is learning to see positive things about herself, and it's been that way since her loss to Neji in the Chuunin Exams. As a result, she is learning to take compliments more easily, so she blushes rather than going a little hysterical.
7. She's NOT Neji, damn you. - ARGH. I think I've already broken this one. Hinata doesn't take note of other people's body language until she thinks she needs to. Even then, she wouldn't point out all the specifics; just question the person about how they're feeling and maybe say something if they don't tell her. And, um ... *cough* Wavering about using birds for symbolism. Fanfiction and fanart would have her relating to birds, but that really is Neji's thing.Damn, but she needs something to muse over.
8. Naruto - ... *sigh* Okay. What Kishimoto has had happen: Hinata offers to help Naruto cheat through the first part of the Chuunin exam; she actually manages to talk to Naruto himself before the Chuunin exam finals; when Naruto leaves Konoha with Jiraiya, she still doesn't have the courage to say goodbye to his face.As for the fainting thing in Part II when she sees Naruto again, I'm disregarding since she's future AU. This is one rule I've been doing rather badly, I think. Granted, I was pretty much playing her AU from the beginning considering when I picked her up, and I do prefer her with a little more backbone when speaking with Naruto.
But that aside, Kishimoto portrays her as a VERY shy character around Naruto. If she manages to faint at the sight of Naruto being really close to her, that should mean she's got it bad, right? I mean ...asdfghjkl; NOT GOOD AT THIS ANYWAY. She's past the nervous stage. She's still wading through the shy stage. REMEMBER TO BLUSH OCCASIONALLY.
9. Weakness =/= Fragile - You find yourself going anywhere near RPing Hinata as a "delicate little flower" STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER ANDSPORK YOURSELF HAVE A GOOD LONG THINK ABOUT IT.
